Posted On: 13 SEP 2026 6:22PM by PIB Delhi The Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying (DAHD), Government of India, today reviewed the Lumpy Skin Disease (LSD) situation in the National Capital Territory (NCT) of Delhi in coordination with the Delhi Animal Husbandry authorities. The review focused on the current disease situation, vaccination coverage, surveillance, treatment and strengthening of preventive and disease-control measures.

On 13th September, 2026 Animal Husbandry Commissioner (AHC), Dr. Naveena B. Maheswarappa, reviewed the disease situation with the Delhi Animal Husbandry authorities and emphasised the need for sustained vaccination, active surveillance and timely implementation of disease-control measures. He also stressed for close coordination with the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), gaushalas and other stakeholders, particularly for effective management and vaccination of stray cattle and strengthening of biosecurity measures.

The LSD is sporadic in Delhi and presently under control, with low severity and good recovery among affected animals. No mortality has been reported among affected cattle. As on 13th September 2026, around 584 active cases are being reported, mainly among unvaccinated and vulnerable animals, including those with co-morbidities, weak nutritional status or those under stress.

More than 45,950 animals have been vaccinated against LSD in Delhi during 2026. Vaccination and other disease-control measures are continuing, with emphasis on timely vaccination, surveillance, isolation of affected animals, vector control, disinfection and biosecurity.During the review, DAHD provided technical guidance to the Delhi authorities on vaccination, treatment and animal management and advised strengthening coordination with the Municipal Corporation of Delhi

(MCD), gaushalas and other stakeholders for effective management and vaccination of stray cattle, isolation of affected animals, vector control, disinfection/sanitization and implementation of biosecurity measures including establishment of physical check-post across neighbouring states for movement control.

Wider awareness activities involving animal owners, local representatives, NGOs, schools and other stakeholders were also emphasised to promote vaccination and good animal-husbandry practices.

The Department continues to maintain close coordination with States/UTs, regularly reviews the situation provide necessary assistance for effective prevention, control and containment of LSD. The disease situation across the country continues to be closely monitored.
