Posted On: 16 SEP 2026 7:18PM by PIB Delhi In alignment with the Government of India’s Swachhata campaign aimed at promoting cleanliness and hygiene in workplaces and public spaces, the Ministry of Heavy Industries (MHI) has successfully carried forward nationwide cleanliness and green initiatives with remarkable results.

Between December 2025 and August 2026, the Ministry undertook a total of 456 cleanliness campaigns, resulting in the weeding out of 6,115 files, freeing up approximately 6.14 lakh sq. ft. of office space, and generating approximately ₹60.34 crore in revenue through the disposal of scrap. These initiatives have significantly enhanced workplace efficiency, optimized space utilization, and fostered a cleaner, healthier and more conducive working environment.

During the Special Campaign 5.0 from 2ndOctober to 31st October 2025, MHI along with its Central Public Sector Enterprises (CPSEs)/Autonomous Bodies (ABs) secured 6th position in revenue generation by generating a revenue of Rs. 9.88 crores through scrap disposal and secured 2nd position in space freed (repurposed for new office areas, meeting halls, libraries, leisure rooms etc.), i.e., 44.44 lakh Sq. ft.

The Ministry is in the process of finalizing locations and will undertake concerted efforts to achieve the campaign’s objectives during its main phase of the upcoming Special Campaign 6.0, scheduled to be conducted from 2nd October to 31st October 2026.

Reaffirming its commitment to the vision of Swachh Bharat, the Ministry and its CPSEs/ABs, observed SwachhataPakhwada from 16th to 30th August 2026. A series of awareness programmes and activities were organized to promote cleanliness, hygiene and sustainable living practices.

The Ministry is also actively participating in the Swachhata Hi Seva Campaign (17thSeptember – 2ndOctober 2026). This year’s theme, “Swachhata Mein Sahbhag, Swachh Bharat, Viksit Bharat,” underscores the collective role and responsibility of every individual in driving the nation’s cleanliness efforts and contributing towards a cleaner and more developed India. The key focus areas of the SHS- 2026 campaign are Transformation of Cleanliness Target Units (CTUs) & Clean Public Places,

SwachhPaathshala: Yuva for Swachhata, SafaiMitraSurakshaEvamSammanShivir, Jan Bhagidari for Swachhata, Swachhata se Samriddhi.
