Will the Minister of LABOUR AND EMPLOYMENT be pleased to
state:
(a)whether the Government proposes to increase the minimum monthly pension under EPS-1995 from existing Rs. 1,000 to Rs.
7,500 and if so, the details thereof;
(b)the details of employees covered under EPS-1995 and the total amount of pension received by them; and
(c)the details of number of employees who have received an enhanced pension pursuant to decision of the Supreme Court regarding EPS-1995? ANSWER MINISTER OF STATE FOR LABOUR AND EMPLOYMENT (SUSHRI SHOBHA KARANDLAJE)
(a): The EPS, 1995 Employees' Pension Scheme is a โDefined Contribution-Defined Benefitโ Social Security Scheme. The corpus of the Employeesโ Pension Fund is made up of (i) contribution by the employer @ 8.33 per cent of wages; and (ii) contribution from Central Government through budgetary support @ 1.16 per cent of wages up to an amount of Rs. 15,000/- per month. All benefits under the scheme are paid out of such accumulations. The fund is valued annually as mandated under paragraph 32 of EPS, 1995.
The Government is providing a minimum pension of Rs. 1000 per month to the pensioners under the EPS, 1995 by providing budgetary support, which is in addition to the budgetary support of 1.16 per cent of wages provided annually towards EPS to Employeesโ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO).
EPS 1995 has been superseded by EPS 2026.
The Government is committed to ensuring robust social security coverage to members of EPFO schemes while taking into consideration the sustainability of the Fund and the future liabilities thereon.

(b): As on 31.03.2026, the total number of pensioners under the Employees' Pension Scheme is 85,84,604. The total amount of pension disbursed under the Scheme up to 31.03.2026 is โน15,819.28 crore.
(c): A total of 1,49,806 PPOs on Pension on Higher Wages have been issued to the retired applicants pursuant to Hon'ble Supreme Court judgement dated 04.11.2022. *****
