Parliament Question: Funds for Bengaluru Metro Rail

GOVERNMENT OF INDIA MINISTRY OF HOUSING AND URBAN AFFAIRS LOK SABHA UNSTARRED QUESTION NO. 3087 TO BE ANSWERED ON AUGUST 06, 2026 FUNDS FOR BENGALURU METRO RAIL NO. 3087 SHRI P C MOHAN:

Will the Minister of HOUSING AND URBAN AFFAIRS be pleased to state:

(a) the details of the funds provided by the Union Government to Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) for Namma Metro under Phase-2, Phase-2A/2B and Phase-3 including equity and subordinate debt components;

(b) the present timeline fixed for completion of these phases including the Blue Line's Silk Board-KR Puram and Hebbal-Kempegowda International Airport sections of the 58.19 km, 29-station corridor;

(c) the issues affecting the timely completion of these phases including civil construction progress, rolling stock delivery and depot connectivity, particularly for commencement of trial runs and passenger services on the Blue Line; and

(d) the steps taken by the Union Government in coordination with the State Government to expedite completion of the project, ensure timely utilisation of Central funds and prioritise the Blue Line in view of its importance for airport connectivity? ANSWER THE MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF HOUSING AND URBAN AFFAIRS (SHRI TOKHAN SAHU)

(a): The Union Government has released a total of ₹26,447.27 crore, including equity and subordinate debt components, to Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) for Phase-2, Phase-2A/2B and Phase-3 of the Bangalore Metro Rail Project, as on 30.07.2026.

(b) and (c): Metro projects are generally completed in five to six years from the date of sanction. However, actual completion of projects depends upon the timely acquisition of land, tree cutting permission, court cases etc. The Bangalore Metro Rail Project – Phase 2A & 2B (ORR– Airport Metro) from Central Silk Board Junction to Kempegowda International Airport via Hebbal Junction, having a length of 58.19 km, has achieved 72.50% physical progress and 70.17% financial progress as on 30.06.2026.

(d): High Powered Committee chaired by Chief Secretary of the concerned state regularly reviews the Metro Project to take expeditious decisions on matters for ensuring timely completion of metro projects. In addition to the above, it is informed that most of the metro rail projects are implemented by Joint Venture Special Purpose Vehicle (SPVs), which are companies with equal representation in the Board both from Central and State Governments. The progress of these projects is monitored by the Board of the SPVs constituted for the purpose. Further, progress of the metro projects is reviewed under Pro-Active Governance and Timely Implementation (PRAGATI), Project Monitoring Group (PMG) by the Central Government.
