Will the Minister of COOPERATION (सहकारिता मंत्री) be pleased to state:

(a) the number of different crop seed varieties introduced in the market by the BBSSL for distribution in the country so far;

(b) the manner in which the BBSSL proposes to distribute its seeds;

(c) whether the BBSSL has established zonal or regional offices across the country for the effective implementation of its seed distribution programme;

(d) if so, the details thereof in respect of Maharashtra and Dadar & Nagar Haveli;

(e) whether the BBSSL also provides services such as seed selection, fertiliser advisory and technical training to the farmers; and

(f) if so, the channel through which BBSSL is distributing its seeds in respect of Maharashtra and Dadar & Nagar Haveli? ANSWER THE MINISTER OF COOPERATION सहकारिता मंत्री (SHRI AMIT SHAH)

(a) Bhartiya Beej Sahakari Samiti Limited (BBSSL) has so far introduced seeds of 18 crops and 124 varieties in the market under the ‘Bharat Beej’ brand for distribution across the country.

(b) BBSSL distributes its seeds through its nationwide network of member cooperative societies, private distributors and dealers, as well as through State Seed Federations and Seed Corporations under various government schemes.

(c), (d) & (f) No, Sir. For the effective implementation of its seed distribution programme, BBSSL has designated region-wise Zonal Managers and Coordinators, including officials Page 1 of 2responsible for Maharashtra and Dadra and Nagar Haveli, at its Head Office. In Maharashtra, seeds of fodder crops, cotton, sorghum and groundnut have been supplied by BBSSL through the State Government under Centrally Sponsored Schemes, namely NMEO-OS, NFSNM and the Kapas Kranti Mission, while wheat and gram seeds have been distributed through private distribution channels. In Dadra and Nagar Haveli, the Department of Agriculture has been designated as BBSSL’s Nodal Agency for coordinating seed distribution and related activities.

(e) No, Sir. The BBSSL has been set up to act as an apex organization for production, procurement, processing, branding, labelling, packaging, storage, marketing and distribution of quality seeds; strategic research & development; and to develop a system for preservation and promotion of indigenous natural seeds.
